Rachel and Jemma from Fly High Stories tell us a little bit more about their time in the Creation Space.

Can you tell us a bit about Fly High Stories?

Fly High Stories was founded by old friends, director Jemma Gross and writer Rachel Barnett, to create theatre for family audiences with an emphasis on growth mindset, confidence building, and being playful.

How would you describe the work that you create?

The work has been inspired by the fact that we are both mothers and want to make accessible theatre which our children will be captivated by. We are committed to making shows which can be enjoyed and understood by young audiences everywhere, no matter their backgrounds.

What will you be working on during your residency at artsdepot?

We are working on a new show, Fly High, about aerodynamics and friendship, whilst we are here at artsdepot. Fly High will shared to an invited audience of a local school group in December, and then take off to Singapore for a run at the Singapore Repertory Theatre in February before touring the UK from September 2020!

What elements of the project will you be developing while you’re here?

The script and the music will be written and composed throughout the week and we will also be looking to make connections with local schools to invite to the sharing in December. We'll be posting our progress on our Twitter Feed.

What’s the most useful thing to have with you in the rehearsal space?

An open mind and a cup of tea! (Also lots of post-it notes.)
